My definition of a fishing buddy.
Someone who wants to share in an adventure without complaint. They will endure the hard ships and the good times exploring the challenges of the sport of fishing. Laugh and cry with you on the successes or failures (excuse auto spell fail-liars). Respecting the shared secrets of locations and gear.
They will accept my shortcomings, as I will endure theirs. Willing to help each other even beyond the boundaries of fishing with no limitation. I remember locking my key in the jeep and a buddy offered to drive me home an hour away to get the spare. Buddies are special to have. It's not like fishing where you are restricted to a retention limit. These are individuals who still believe in the meaning of a handshake. A personal word is bond. They always have an open heart to even strangers.
Get togethers are important as we share stories and tribulations. Some true and some stretched. Even when their jokes aren't funny we will laugh anyways.
One of my favorites is a get together. Whether itís at a restaurant or at a friendís home. Always a surprise on what the guest will brings to the home. Poached chicken in oyster sauce with hot and sour soup, varying venisonís, bear, shell fish, sashimi, lox, indian candy salmon and amazing vegetable dishes to name a few. The desert, oh how we can sin.
Then some times we lose a buddy. His smiles said it all. Full of energy and his heart was always open to all, even to strangers. When this happens we all cry and bond closer. Those we lose can never be replaced. Thatís why I am very thankful to have a lot of fishing buddies.
I was taught a poem when I was the age of 7 on friendship.
To deserve a friend who is loyal and true to the end
Remember this always yourself, be the friend.
