Where did you catch your biggest steelhead and what stream did you catch it in? Saw this on another forum, thought it might be interesting.
Mine was roughly 18 - 20 pounds from the stamp.

I caught mine about 10 years ago on the Gold River. It was a big buck taped in at 39 inches.

20 lbs from the Cowichan River. She just hammered the pink worm and almost ripped the rod out of my hands. I landed her 300 yards downstream

Yes it was abnormally large and I couldn't get my hand around the tail. The fish of a lifetime!

The fish I have in my display pic was right around 20-22 pounds I'm guessing. I got that one on the Gold River a few years ago in February. My dad had a hell of a time tailing it because it was so thick around the tail.
Funny thing was there was another fish of similar size following this fish around during the battle. Likely these 2 were a spawning pair but I've never seen this happen before with steelhead. Only with coho on the saltchuck.
Anyone else seen this behavior with steelhead?

40 plus inches. Babine. Very thick in the shoulders buck. Your guess. Bear in mind, the average steelhead is 10 lbs at 30 inches. They add approx. 1 lb for every inch after that.Somewhere after 36 inches that kinda goes out the window and it is more than a pound. Then it is up to the old formulas. length x girth squared divided by 800. some say it is divided by 750 So another buck I got was 36 x 20.5 20.5 x 20.5 = 420.25 x 36 = 15129 divide by 800 = 18.91 lbs 15129 divide by 750 = 20.172 lbs so lets guess 40 x 22 div.800 = 24.2 lbs 750 = 25.81 lbs Many moons ago......

Phearless,
That fish sounds like a real brute! I agree, that formula doesnt quite work after 36'' so given it was 40'' plus and from the Babine, I think its safe to say it was pushing 30 pounds.
Ive seen pictures of fish from the Babine and it looks like they are all definitely far from starving.
