Well the weather was not very nice till Sunday afternoon, so no fishing done. Sure was a lot of gulls flying and feeding in the Pass, noticed a couple of boats trolling on the outside of the pass on Sunday afternoon.
Heading there again this weekend to do more maintence and work on the house and yard, will try to get out for some fish then hopefully.

Tell then Cheers.

Deeds im from ladysmith and fish this area often. Lately i have found tent island to be more productive than polier. Last year there were a ton of juvenile herring in the pass all summer and i found the fishing to be better on the inside using the smallest bait possible. The herring are very easy to catch in the pass using herring jigs if you wish to use them. Seals and gulls usually indicate they are there, and nothing beats the fresh bait. Keep up the reportss this area always lacks themm.

Sure will Alwaters.

I remember when I was a kid fishing these area's with live bait all summer, I still carry the herring rake for that purpose. Now that I am back from Alberta, I will be around that area all the time.

Cheers

deeds I wish more info was available to help you out, but not a lot of people fish that area anymore and the ones that do keep it hush.

They are starting to pick up fish off Thrasher Rk now so if you get a chance to go up that way on a nice day it might be worth a look. Most fish are caught between 80 and 160ft there with green/glow lures being very popular.

Well tried to get some fishing in, trolled on the out side of the pass for an hour, nothing, went into the inside for an hour, nothing. Dropped a couple of jigs in my favorite spot for lings, within minutes landed 2 nice nice lings around the 20 pound range. That was it for fishin for me, spent the rest of the time working and having a couple of drinks at the house.

Cheers

P.S Lots of smaller herring around, even sitting on my deck you look down and the waters are swarming with them.

Hey deeds, I have just started fishing up at the pass as well with some success but still havnt found the sweet spot. There were lots of sea lions there and seals every time up been there for the sunrise. Lots of bait too but in 4 or so trips have only landed a couple 10 -12 lbers. I am hoping to go up to thrasher this weekend but would love to start getting into some fish at Porlier closer to home.

Thanks for that heads up Cory, could have just saved me a big headache if I get into some fish.

I have tried both so far, seems that the inside of pass has way too many seals for me tho. I like moching in the kelp beds along in the pass during slac tide, have slammed a lot of springs that way in the past years. A little too early yet, mid summer is better for fishing that way.
Well maybe see ya out there some time.

Well a great weekend to be ocean side again, the water conditions were calm as could be for me. Now fishing was another story, went out twice, once with the whole family, and once with just the wife. Both times when ariving talking to the other boats the bite was over, never got any salmon, thats my luck.

I had put my rod down for a ling after trolling for an hour trying to get some dinner. My biggest ling ever is 45 pounds, but this weekend proves there is larger lings out there. My wife and I just put our rods down when my rod hit and took off, just started to rell him up when i thought it hooked on bottom, well 1 hour later and almost snapping my moching rod, there in site was a 70cm ling with a monster ling trying to eat him for dinner this monster would not fit into my big net. He let go when i attemted to net it, sad but I kept the little one, what was left of it.

Ps. I was only 42ft of water also.

Wow must have been cool to see that! sorry about your luck trolling for salmon deeds. I went up to thrasher early on saturday morning and it was pretty rough and didnt hit fish in almost a couple hrs 8-10 so we packed up and then went to porlier and by then the winds had died down and we got into some fish about a half hr after the 1pm high slack. a couple nice fish up to 15lbs. all pretty deep in 260-280ft down about 150 range+-10 or so ft. Then after dinner went out to salamanca pt and nailed a nice 12-15lber short and fat fish maybe a columbian?? put up a good fight lots of fun out there right before sunset on the nicest day of the year so far.huge fillets ate it last night.

I am going to say the ling had to be around 55-60, ya an eye opener for sure, good to see that there is still some good size breeders out there.

salishsea good catch for the day, it is hard to go over there and troll for me, plus the kids get pretty bored fast. I have been going over there since I was a little and never have trolled there for fish before, always racked my herring, or moched for them. Since moving back from Alberta last year fishing the coast has sure changed....I am heading over there again for the long weekend comming up, I am going to be spending a lot of time on the water, I will master the trolling and where to troll then, I HOPE.....If not you will be hearing from me. Till then tight lines over there.

right on deeds. sounds like a huge fish if it had a big ling in its mouth. ya never know eh. I went out by myself last night and caught 3 salmon in 35 min 2 small releases and a 10lb. all in the first 45 min and then nothing for the next hr. crazy action for that bite though alot of fun could barely keep 1 line in the water let alone 2. hope it just gets better from here!
