Island Timberlands has hired a security company to restrict access to the ash main logging road via the bridge at great central. What kind of garbage is this? Now we can't access many great Lakes - nor can we fish along the stamp river's prime fishing spots!?! I'm disgusted by this. I've lived in this area my entire life and to my knowledge this access point has never been blocked. What living practices don't they want us to see? How can this be permitted? As fishermen and hunters we need to start speaking up against this unecessary security. The resdients of the alberni valley and surrounding areas have always respectfully used these lands for all sorts of recreational activities and now this door is slowly being shut? Unacceptable! These access points are what makes this town so great and if island timberlands continues this trend of gating all that they own.... well this will be a sad day. As I spoke to the security guard at the bridge today I was shocked by the lack of information I was provided. Not only was my access denied, I was given no info as to why or how long the area was closed. Anyways it was a frustrating afternoon today, however I am now aggravated enough to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for temporarily ruining many great days of fishing island timberlands!

Saw this coming sadly. I will say I've seen heavy logging on the ash main this year and there are some very dicey sections for loaded trucks coming down and public vehicles with no radios going up. Concern for the public is a pretty legitimate issue I'm afraid and that's probably part of the reason. Too bad for sure hope this isn't permanent (I'm sure it won't be because of the costs). Let us know if there's something we can do.

A legitimate concern for the publics safety just doesn't cut it for me. There has always been dicey sections on this road and logging in the alberni valley has always been our biggest resource. Now, I know that island timberlands owns this land and can legally do whatever they want with it, BUT If we all just sit back idly and accept this we'll only enable them into making more decisions like this in the future. This town will suffer if this logging company chokes out access points to our great outdoors. We collectively need to come together and let then know that this is unacceptable. There are alot more fishermen and hunters in the valley than there are loggers. What's the next move. ... I'm not sure. That's why I'm on here. A solution needs to be figured out. Thanks for reading.
