The salmon fishing around the Ucluelet harbor has been hit and miss the last ten days. Most of the sport boats and guide boats leaving the Harbor are setting straight out to the Rats Nose and the egg areas. Halibut have been fantastic for those sitting on the pick. For those anglers trolling the bigger and shorter turds have been working. UV turds have been excellent for both salmon and halibut. Also a variety of hootchies in the Sonora, Jack Smith and Blue Meanie have all been great for salmon and halibut. The Chinook have been in water from one hundred and forty feet right to the bottom and just over two hundred feet in many areas. For anglers seeking halibut that are a bit larger there is no secret that anchoring out is the best method to fish. Trolling has also been very productive but the halibut coming up from the depths are mostly in the fifteen to twenty pound range. The weather offshore the last number of days has been absolutely phenomenal. Many of the boats going and returning have been travelling at speeds of 25 to over 30 miles per hour. We still have a little room left for accommodation and fishing in late July and early August. For information call Doug at 250 731 7389
