The Salmon fishing in Barkley Sound has been definitely sporadic to say the least. Over the past few days there have been a few good Coho landings at Meares, Swale, Kirby, Whittlestone and Beale. There have also been some good sized Chinook coming into these areas with a few Chinook landed at Whittlestone and Beale in the twenty pound range. Meares, Austin, Harbor Entrance and Swale have also had a few Chinook with the largest salmon coming in at twenty-six pounds late last week. Anchovy in a variety of teaser heads (green haze, cop car, Army Truck glow) seem to work well. However some of the areas continue to have under size salmon and one can go through the bait very quickly. If turning to spoons the Skinny G, Koho killers in the kitchen sink, herring aid and cookies and cream seem to be excellent lures to put out. We are getting into the later part of July and some of the West Coast Vancouver Island Chinook should begin to show in pretty good numbers. Expect some of the best fishing to be out on surf line areas. For more information and to get a last minute fishing and accommodation opportunity call Doug at 250 731 7389.
