Sport Fishing outside the Ucluelet Harbor in many offshore locations has been just fantastic. The Rats Nose, egg, and Hali West have all had consistent sport fishing opportunities for the past three weeks. The Chinook salmon have not been on the large size but there have been good numbers of Chinook salmon that have on average ranged from eight to fourteen pounds. There are good numbers of hatchery Coho in the mix with a few already coming in at up to twelve pounds. The halibut fishing has been superb with many guides and sport anglers landing halibut up to forty-five pounds either anchoring out or trolling the bottom or mid water with salmon gear. The outer and inner South Bank, the turtle head, and adipose have also had a few salmon over the last couple of days. However with that being said these locations are not close to the sport fishing out at the Big Bank locations. The salmon are hitting a variety of spoons, hootchies and turds. The Sonoro, Jack Smith, Blue Meanie, small and large white Turd, and the light green spatterback turd have all been examples of great lures for landing salmon and halibut on the troll. The Coho have been hitting these hootchies and turds and also a variety of spoons from three to four inches. August should be a fabulous sport fishing month out on the west coast of Vancouver Island. There is an opportunity for a few days trips and two spots for accomodation and sport fishing. Call Doug for more information at 250 731 7389.
