Chinook and Coho salmon are migrating into Barkley Sound in large numbers. Over the past week the number of salmon moving into the Sound has been incredible. Sport anglers have been experiencing tremendous success fishing in many of the sound locations. Austin and Cree Island, Swale Rock, Pill Point and Sandford Island have all had some tremendous salmon fishing with many anglers limiting on Chinook and Coho. Various Spoons, hootchies and bait have been working. Anchovy do seem to be the best for landing the Chinook and Coho salmon moving into the Sound. The best bait holders have been green haze, purple haze, glow army truck, and cop car. Coho killers in three and a half inch and the no bananas four inch spoon are working well as are some of the many coyote spoons in various green and glow colors. The return of Chinook and Coho salmon are expected to be well above average for West Coast Vancouver Island. The expectation for some world class fishing during the second half of August and into September should happen in 2017.
