There is not a lot of sport fishing currently going on around the Ucluelet area. The weather pattern has definitely changed. November has certainly created rain and wind. Some big storms have already battered the west coast. The 2017 summer sport fishing was definitely excellent with lots of opportunities for the many fisher people visiting and fishing British Columbia's beautiful West Coast. From late April into mid June most of the 2017 sport fishing took place around the islands close to the Ucluelet Harbor and also the surfline areas of Barkley Sound and into areas such as Swale Rock and Vernon Bay. Late June through August had excellent Chinook and Halibut fishing out on the Big Bank. South Bank areas just off the Adipose, the South West Corner and Turtle Head also had some days of good Chinook fishing. However the Rats Nose, the Egg and an area just off the egg provided some very good Chinook, Coho and in July especially terrific halibut sport fishing. The fishing out on the banks did continue into September but some of the best salmon sport fishing in late August and into mid September was around Florencia and Wya Point. Big Chinook migrating to many West Coast Vancouver Island Rivers, Streams and Creeks stayed close to the beach as they were making their long journey to their final destination.
Ucluelet is one of those sport fishing destinations where it is possible to fish most months and also because of the many local Chinook in the water there is most often opportunity of landing a large Chinook throughout the year. Of course the winter months have turbulent water but occassionally there are days with some wonderful winter like conditions where it is possible to get out on the water close to the Harbor Mouth.
The 2018 sport fishing season should be once again very good. The big migration of Chinook and Coho headed to those big watersheds to the south in late May, June and July will porovide for some excellent offshore fishing opportunities. Salmon returns to West Coast Vancouver Island will provide some wonderful opportunities in August and September of 2018. Call Doug at 250 731 7389 for your accomodation and Sport Fishing packages.
