There have been few sport fishermen out on the water around the Bamfield area over the past month. The 2017 sport fishing season for inshore and offshore for most of the summer was relatively ''GOOD''. In late August and into the middle of September the sport fishing along the Bamfield Wall, Wittlestone, Beale, and offshore at the Rats Nose was terrific. WE are certainly hoping that 2018 will provide the same sport fishing that 2017 did. The Current Winter weather along Vancouver Island's West Coast has been very stormy and wet. Big winds and rain have battered the coastline. There was relatively good weather in December as a high pressure system bringing in cooler air sat over the coast. This did provide some sunny afternoons around the Bamfield area and Barkley Sound. A few avid anglers did take advantage of this opportunity with a break in the weather in December and the odd day in January. Local fisher persons had a little bit of success fishing along the Bamfield Wall and out to the whistle buoy. Anchovy in chartreuse, army truck glow , and cop car teaser heads produced some results. There were a lot of undersize Chinook in the area meaning spoons may very well have been a better choice. The spoons to use at this time of year are cookies and cream, irish cream, and perhaps green nickel and cop car in the three and three and a half inch. Hopefully the Winter Chinook fishing will pick up as we get closer to the herring spawn. The first weekend of March will also be the dates of the areas first big Fishing Derby. The Sproat Loggers Derby always takes place at this time. We are now organizing for the 2018 season. Call 250 731 7389 to organize your accomodation and fishing package.
