It is almost April and weather patterns should improve for Vancouver Island's inshore and even offshore areas. The fishing in the Sound on both shore lines has improved. One of the largest feeders in the past few weeks was landeded during the Sproat Lake Loggers derby. The salmon was close to seventeen and a half pounds and was picked up very close to Diplock. Local Bamfield anglers have been have some success on the Bamfield side of Fleming Island close to Sandford. The back side of Swale Rock and also the area of Vernon Bay have been fairly good for feeders averaging eight to ten pounds. Anchovy is working the best as long as there are not a lot of small undersize Chinook in the area one is fishing. The undersize salmon can eat up the bait pretty quick. Three and three and a half inch spoons in Irish Cream, Cookies and Cream, green nickel, and the glow cop car have all been quite good with longer leader. The 2018 Saltwater salmon season is fast approaching. It looks like a great season is shaping up. Call Doug for more information and to organize your summer fishing and accomodation package.
